Ever wondered how you could create an outstanding organisational culture where your purpose, vision, values, leaders and your employees are all aligned to relentlessly push boundaries, drive innovation, achieve great results and challenge the status quo?

Most leaders toy with this question on a regular basis and often feel frustrated that the answer seems too far removed to embrace the challenge.

Inspire 2015 is an opportunity to meet with other leaders and find out what it takes to be a best in class company. Our intimate one-day event, set in the heart of Bath will allow you the time to press the pause button long enough to enlighten, stimulate and inspire your thinking on how you can shape your business and create a dynamic culture for the future.

When you attend Inspire you will get the chance to go behind the scenes of the not-for-profit modern and ethical housing and support organisation, Curo, which perfectly demonstrates how you can consciously achieve an inspiring business culture!

Our expert panel of speakers are experienced in leading people and businesses through change; their vast wealth of knowledge and expertise will not only inspire your thinking but also enable you to tap into your core strengths to influence your ideas when you return to your desk.

Inspire is a forum for real business and personal growth. The practical format of the day will enable you to not only hear from our speakers but also take part in workshop sessions where you can focus solely on you and your business needs.

Once the dust has settled Inspire is also giving each leader the opportunity to continue to build on the momentum of the day with a one to one coaching session with our leadership coach Liza Hughes after the event.

A Sunday social on bikes for the West of England Design Forum community on Sunday 31 May.

With Spring (almost) in the air, we've decided it's time to get out on our bikes and explore. There will be two rides so you can choose your pace; a leisurely, family-friendly ride (avoiding main roads) and another for the sportier cyclists amongst us (Lycra optional!).

The two groups will rendezvous at the same destination for coffee and cake or lunch and a drink, depending on your preference.

Route A will be a family-friendly ride of around 15-20 miles (there and back) for anyone who fancies a leisurely Sunday morning pootle up the Bristol & Bath Cycle Path, to meet for coffee/lunch, before heading back to Bristol.

Route B is for the keener cyclist – about three hours' riding (e.g. 35-40 miles) at a brisk (but not competitive) pace to meet for coffee/lunch, followed by a ride back to Bristol (route back a choice of long or short, depending on how legs are feeling!).

Meet outside the Arnolfini at 9.45am for a 10am departure (TBC). Both groups will rendezvous at the Bird in Hand in Saltford (right next to the cycle path) from 11-11.30am onwards.

The ride is open to the WEDF community and anyone you'd like to bring with you. The more the merrier! Please RSVP by Friday 29 May so we have an idea of numbers.

More details on the route will be announced nearer the time. For any questions please contact Adrian Barclay.

Develop Me, a Bristol-based digital skills training company, was set up in October 2014 to support companies and individuals in providing access to commercially-relevant digital skills.

Demand is strong

In the first five months since their launch, Develop Me have delivered a range of digital skills workshops attended by over 100 people. These include sessions at the Bath Digital Festival, Digital Bristol Week and Bath Girl Geeks Code Clubs, along with a suite of bespoke training courses for Bristol, Bath and Cardiff-based agency web teams, independent developers and designers across the West of England.

Positive feedback

Develop Me’s workshops have been extremely well received. David Thompson, a web developer at Hibbert Harwood in Bath had this to say about Develop Me’s Git workshop“I attended the Git workshop in December 2014, this was the third Develop Me workshop I have been to and I always leave feeling enlightened and motivated. “Oli & co have a great knack of gauging skill levels in a group and amending the workshop so it works for everyone. Git is an industry standard nowadays, the workshop gave me the confidence to start using Git and implement it in my agency. “For small agencies having the potential to share web projects and involve independent developers is empowering and enabling. Also having a controlled VCS keeps our web administration manageable and organised. The buzz around Git is all true and I would recommend it to any agency with a web offering. Git is the future!”

You can see a video from this workshop, held at The Guild, on YouTube.

Offering new courses

Develop Me are now broadening their offering, with new courses focussed on corporate teams and businesses looking to update both their digital skillset and mindset. There will also be single day and evening short courses and workshops for developers, including their new Angular course running on 10th April, in addition to SEO and PPC courses running soon.

Get involved

If you are in need of digital skills, for you or your business, or just want to find out more, check out Develop Me’s website for upcoming courses and information, or let them know about courses you’d like to see.

You can also sign up for their Angular course running on 10th April.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented junior designer with a minimum of 2 years agency experience to join our busy Bristol-based studio. You must be fully proficient in InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop and have the motivation and confidence to strive towards a middleweight position.

The successful applicant will predominantly be working as part of a team that focuses on food packaging, POS and associated collateral for a large client that provides product and design solutions for major supermarkets and convenience stores throughout the UK and Europe. This includes both supermarkets own-branded foods as well as their own unique brands.

Current experience within packaging is obviously an advantage but not essential. However being a fast-pased and sometimes technically challenging role the applicant must be organised and have the aptitude to quickly develop new skills as required. Our design team will often take projects from conception through to press-ready artwork so an understanding of artworking is also key.

Halo Media is a full service agency with a wealth of experience across various sectors including food packaging and agriculture, the entertainment industry, public sector, FMCG and everything inbetween. We will put our hands to anything that is thrown at us and we are looking for a candidate that will do the same. We work across all formats including print, digital, web, TV and video. We have worked hard on creating a lively studio atmosphere and try our best to make the busy times as enjoyable as possible.

We offer a competitive salary, benefits, 20 days holiday plus usually around 5 days extra when we close for Christmas.

The Design Museum was established as a charitable trust by Sir Terence Conran in the run up to the opening of the Design Museum at its Shad Thames site in 1989. It is currently an organization with a £5m turnover, 70 full time staff, and around 250 000 visitors each year. In 2016 it will move to a new home in the former Commonwealth Institute building in Holland Park after a successful £55m fundraising campaign.

Before the museum opens in its new home it is looking to appoint a number of new trustees to overlap with the existing team. The museum is moving on from development and construction, toward creative expansion and new trustees need to reflect a different balance of skills and backgrounds.

It is specifically seeking Trustees with experience in new creative technologies, from architecture to digital communications, those with expertise in retail or e-commerce, and those from the business world who can foster and champion the museum’s culture of creative enterprise and the richness of the visitors’ experience.
