https://www.linkedin.com/in/ka…A conversation amongst generations of people in the design industry, exploring perceptions, experiences, and impact.
We’ve gathered together 5 brilliant industry speakers, each representing a generation with a unique perspective. Like our previous Huddle event on Creative Resilience, this will be an intimate and candlelit evening at the Mount Without without screens and slide decks.
Hosted by south west design thinker and academic Lynne Elvins, she’ll steer the conversation and help us unpack the conversation. From starting out and agency life to AI and technological change, we’ll be discussing and exploring everyone’s experiences in the graphic design industry and pondering how things were, are and could be.
Meet our speakers:
Lewis Clarke
Lewis’ creative journey is rooted in the South-West. After studying Graphic Design at Bristol UWE, he has spent much of his career with Somerset based global footwear brand Clarks, progressing from junior designer to Global Brand and Art Direction lead. He is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of creatives, volunteering as a mentor at Bristol UWE and Falmouth University and taking part in national and international initiatives like The Arena and The One School. Lewis recently took on the role of Associate Creative Director at Leeds creative agency The Onlii.
A Lancashire lass, now based in Bristol, Claudia is a proud member of Falmouth University alumni where she continues to mentor and help students as they begin their design journey. Currently a mid-weight designer at Fiasco Design, she has spent the past 4 years developing her passion for brand and motion design. Motivated by the desire to craft innovative ideas with strategic thinking at their heart, she gets most pleasure from any project that has the ability to change lives or impact the world in a positive way. Claudia was awarded the ‘Overall Creative Champion’ at the South West Design Awards, featured on D&AD’s ‘One’s to Watch’ at the New Blood Festival 2020 and shortlisted for Design Week’s ‘Rising Star 2022’.
Sam Edwards
A Bristol-based freelance designer and co-founder of Amblr Studio. Sam graduated from the University of Gloucester in 2013, and cut his teeth at Taxi Studio where he spent the first 7 years of his graphic design career. In 2023, Sam and partner Kira founded Amblr studio, a branding and packaging studio working with good brains and great people to make bright ideas. Passionate about nurturing the next generation of creative talent, he is also a part-time lecturer on his old degree course. Sam’s ‘things of cultural significance’ include Art Attack, MSN Messenger. Blockbuster Video, Adobe Flash and The Sims.
Kate Lenton
After starting out as a corporate comms designer in London, Kate moved to Bristol and co-founded digital agency, Positive. She became Head of Digital at Taxi Studio in 2014 and went on to become Managing Partner – supporting the Founders to grow the agency, developing talent, and leading digital projects for global brands. Driven by the ambition to use creativity to support people with their challenges, Kate left Taxi in 2022 to train as an Art Psychotherapist, and has spent the last two years working in forensic and adolescent mental health. Passionate about supporting a more diverse talent pool to succeed in the creative industries, she has been actively involved in the Southwest creative scene for over 20 years. Kate now divides her time between her MA studies and Board Advisory roles.
Joe Keylock
Joe’s currently in his final year of Graphic Design UWE Bristol. He loves all things print and publication, but especially anything with a good story behind it and also enjoys collaborating and working in teams to share ideas whilst helping each other to develop. It’s this collective aspect of design that has always drawn him to the subject. His degree studies at UWE have wet his appetite for a career in design and he was delighted to be part of this year’s Werkshop Weekender cohort.
Right now, he has lots of interest across different aspects of design so is thinking he’d like to eventually end up working in print and publications, or with strategy and copy, and maybe go on to teach eventually.
